Michigan Legacy Art Park is located in Thompsonville, Michigan not far from the shores of Lake Michigan in the northern part of the state. A visit there is sure to leave you with the feeling that your time was well spent. The park is open during daylight hours every day of the year, so regardless of when you visit, its facilities are available to you.
If you are into music, you will certainly want to consider a visit during a time in which you can enjoy the Tunes Among the Trees. This is an outdoor concert series that features music of genres such as folk, rock, classical and Latin.
A visit to a park such as this would not be complete without enjoying some of the outdoor activities that make the attraction so appealing. At Michigan Legacy Art Park, you can hike through the two miles of hiking trails. There you can take the time to view 49 sculptures and 31 poetry stones while you enjoy the natural scenery provided by the hardwood forests of Northern Michigan. The sculptures and poetry are created to give visitors a personal connection to the people, natural resources and events that make the region a special place.
A visit to the park provides an excellent educational experience, especially for school-age youth. This is what makes it a popular destination venue for school trips. Parents of children who have been on one or more of these trips frequently remark that the educational experience far exceeded what could be obtained from a classroom alone.
If you are a golfer, you should look into playing in the golf classic at Crystal Mountain. Not only will you enjoy a fantastic outing with family and friends, but the proceeds will go toward the park’s Looking to Learn educational program. The event is held in June of each year.
During the summer, you can take a guided tour of the park every Wednesday and Saturday. This is a good way to gain insight on the details of the park that you might have overlooked otherwise.
If you are into art, you will appreciate the artist benches that are scattered throughout the park. They provide a good way to sit down, relax, and put your art talent to work. You can also take advantage of the Artists in Residence program. Artists descend on the park each summer to create new works for the park’s collection. These artists also lead workshops and conduct studio sessions.
To get you in the Christmas spirit, you might consider attending the Winter Sounds holiday concert that is held during the month of December with this year’s event slated for December 17. It will feature Benzie Central Chamber Choir. You can also enjoy warm beverages while you appreciate to good music.
Your trip to Northern Michigan will be more complete when you add a stop at Michigan Legacy Art Park to your itinerary. You will truly find the park to be one-of-a-kind.
Of course if you are going to snow shoe it as would be the case with the current conditions outside, you should layer up in a Michigan D Fleece Or Hoodie!
