Things To Do In Downtown Detroit MI 2016
Detroit, Michigan is the largest city on the East Side side of the state. This city also known as the Motor City or the Renaissance City is enjoying a renaissance of its own as of late, thanks to investments by Quicken Loan and other major players that call Detroit home. Detroit has a rich history of art and sports, and has numerous tourist attractions from the automotive maker- Henry Ford Estate to the Ford Field museum that has themes reflecting the automotive factories in the city. The city has an interesting history too as depicted in many attractions including Greektown. Find time to watch the Lions play football or catch a Tigers baseball game and enjoy the city’s attractions. Detroit also has tons of restaurants that suit all budgets from luxury restaurants to dive bars with amazing burgers.
Comerica Park – Go Tigers!
If you are a baseball fan, the Comerica Park is the place to be to enjoy a Tiger game in action. The crowd is also fun, not to mention a fountain that celebrates each home run with awesome music and colored lights. The stadium can accommodate 41,297 people comfortably.
Comerica Park, named after Comerica Bank that was located in the park earlier is an outdoor ballpark in Downtown Detroit. This is the home field of Detroit Tigers. You can see the field from the Concourse. The giant stone tigers make a statement for the field. There is also a baseball museum, ballpark and a Ferris wheel carousel with tigers that maintain the theme of the park. The park is a great place for the family and there is so much to do for kids. Adults can water at the beer hall as the kids play. There are also so many restaurants surrounding the baseball venue that serve a gourmet of foods.

Ford Field is a multi-purpose indoor stadium located in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. This stadium is used for amazing Concerts, but mainly used use as the home field of the Detroit Lions, part of the National Football League (NFL). The field is also used for the annual Quick Lane Bowl college football bowl game. Ford Field’s seating capacity is approximately 65,000 though it can accommodate 70,000 and 80,000 for football and basketball respectively.
The stadium’s unique design incorporates a six-story former Hudson’s warehouse that dates back to the 1920’s. The warehouse houses most of the stadiums suits. The stadium’s huge glass windows and skylights at the corners allow natural light to get in the field. The windows along the ceiling have an automatic theme that mimics automotive factories in Metro Detroit.

Greektown is Detroit’s historical, commercial and entertainment district. The town attracted Greek immigrants in the early years of the 20th century. The vibrant town is located in the northeast of the heart of downtown. The commercial district is also located between Ford Field and Commercial Park. Greek culture is easily seen in the town’s Greek-themed restaurants. Greektown entered the records of National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
Driving through Greektown is easy and you can park in one of the over 5000 parking spots. This hotspot has a very lively nightlife and the numerous restaurants, casinos and bars keep everyone in having a great time. Ideal for foodies or anyone who just wants to experience some of the best of what the Motor City has to offer. The restaurants and casinos get crowded especially after Lions and Red Wings games. Greektown Casino is a very popular attraction in Detroit. You must be 21 to play in the casino. The casino has a variety of amenities that you will enjoy. This casino operates 24 hours a day. The Henry Ford Estate is one of the famous attractions of Down Town Detroit. While not exactly located in Downtown Detroit, this place made the list simply because it is an experience. From a “thomas the train” ride to horse and buggy rides, where you can also ride in a classic Model T. This place is absolutely amazing. The estate located in Dearborn, Fair Lane is the former home of the famous auto maker Henry Ford and his wife Clara. The family lived in their home from 1915 until their deaths in 1947 and 1950.
Some of the estate’s attractions include a man-made lake, a pony barn, a skating house, a vegetable garden, summer house, staff cottages, root-cellar, green house, 500 bird houses and a Santa’s workshop’.

If you happen to be in Downtown Detroit in summer, then the Historic Fort Wayne is an ideal place to visit. This is an historic fort built in the 1840’s. The attraction includes the star-shaped fort, tunnels, dry moat, barracks and garrison plus a great parade ground. There is also the Commanding Officer’s House that has undergone some restoration. You can witness various events in summer time at the historic fort.
