If you live in or near Northern Michigan, there is no reason to spend a fortune on your next vacation or spend a lot of time traveling there. Instead, take a staycation in the beautiful coastal town of Petoskey. There are plenty of great things to do there for the whole family. Here are some of the best:
1. Magnus City Park Beach
Beach lovers will enjoy this 21-acre park along Little Traverse Bay that offers 1,000 feet of beautiful sandy shoreline. It is a great place to spend a sunny afternoon or even longer. You can not only camp there with your RV but you can also pitch tents. What’s more, the park is only a short distance from downtown Petoskey and all its shops and restaurants.
2. The Historic Gaslight District
If shopping is how you like to spend your time, you will love visiting the 100-year-old Gaslight District, which is lit by historically accurate and well-maintained gas lamps. Here you will find a treasure trove of unique shops, art galleries, and fine restaurants. It is a terrific place to spend an evening.
3. The Odawa Casino Resort
For those who love the thrills of gaming, the Odawa Casino Resort just may be the perfect vacation. Here you will find a variety of slot machines and table games, including poker. Pretty much any game you could find in Las Vegas you will find here as well. They also offer luxury hotel accommodations, a pool, and excellent fine dining.
4. Petoskey Winter Sports Park
Petoskey is not just for summer vacations. There are great things to do in the winter, too, including the Winter Sports Park, which features skiing, snowboarding, skating, and sledding. What is really great about this place is that — while they do charge a small fee for the renting of skates — most of the attractions there are available free of charge.
5. Petoskey Farms Vineyard and Winery
If you are a connoisseur of fine wine, then you owe yourself a visit to the Petoskey Farms Vineyard and Winery. There you can taste their extensive collection of wine on an outdoor patio that overlooks 22 acres of hills, farms, vineyards, and countryside. They also have a shop and a second tasting room in Downtown Petoskey.
6. The Bear River Valley Recreation Area
If you would like to get back to nature, the Bear River Valley Recreation Area is a great place to do so. It has got 36 acres of untouched land that offers a wide variety of activities. This includes whitewater rafting, hiking, cross-country skiing, and fishing. It also offers a mile and a half of scenic river banks.
In conclusion, no matter what you and your family enjoy a vacation, you will find it in Petoskey. There is no need to travel somewhere far away when you can find everything you could possibly want right there, including beaches, shopping, casinos, and sports.
